Roadster Long Wallet/Lanyard Oak Bark Navy

We did a lot of research prior to designing our Roadster, as our goal was to produce a long wallet, which was equally substantial, stylish and practical.

It has a slightly slimmer profile at 100mm wide (when closed), to make sure it sits comfortably in the rear pocket of most denims when worn with the matching hand braided wallet tether. The brass tether ring can also be removed to allow the wallet to sit inside a jacket pocket, if preferred.

Each wallet is hand crafted from Baker’s Oak Bark leather, and will develop a stunning patina, which only gets better with age. Each piece takes 12 months to produce and bears its own unique markings and shade variance, so no two wallets will be the same!

Storage is important in a wallet, so we’ve included 8 credit card pockets, 3 full length note pockets and also two ‘vertical’ card pockets for driving licence etc. There is also a zipped compartment for change etc secured with a high quality ‘Riri’ zipper.

Dimensions of the Roadster are: 180mm tall x 100mm wide (closed) and 180mm tall x 210mm wide (open).

Each wallet comes complete with a hand braided matching tether featuring high quality, solid brass hardware, and also a complimentary 5ml bottle of neatstfoot oil for conditioning the leather.

Presented in Barnes and Moore gift box, made from recycled card.

About the Leather

Constructed from a very special English Leather, supplied by England’s last remaining traditional Oak Bark Tannery.  9-10oz finest English full grain oak bark leather. This leather undergoes a labour intensive, traditional 12 month tanning process to produce a truly outstanding leather. This results in a very strong, yet lightweight leather.

Oak Bark leather is finished by hand with a unique blend of oils and greases that allow the true natural characteristics and colour of the leather to be highlighted. As a result, this leather will show some variation in colour, which is naturally occurring and adds to the unique beauty of each belt.

The surface also has a ‘full grain’ finish and, as a result some natural creasing and marking of the hide may be visible on the surface of your belt, which is a natural characteristic of the leather.

The journey starts with English oak bark, ground down by a water wheel, which is fed by a local river at the tannery. This is then soaked in water to draw out the natural tannin which forms the base of the tanning liquor.

Hides are then soaked in pits for 2-3 weeks to aid removal of the hair, this part of the process ensures the leather retains its fibre strength, and has been done this way for centuries. They are then cleaned by hand and washed before being suspended on wooden ‘sticks’ and suspended in the tanning pits, in the oak bark liquor for 9 months.

The hides are then layered in the pits with oak bark chippings inbetween them for a further 3 months and then shaved to a level thickness. Fish oil is applied and the hides are dipped in greases, and then ‘set’ by hand. The setting process is highly skilled and involves using traditional tools to push the leather grain out to achieve a flat, workable surface.

The final stage is staining the leather to the required colour by hand, and then conditioning with dubbin wax to produce a stunning quality leather.

Roller Belt Natural/Copper

Heavyweight belt, and a wardrobe staple, our Roller is at home paired with jeans or chinos. Simple, high quality traditional roller buckle, made for a lifetime of wear and beyond!

We make them all by hand, from heavy quality 5mm dip dyed Harness Leather, which is produced for us by one of England’s finest remaining tanneries. Each piece of leather takes 3-4 months to produce, using traditional tanning methods that date back centuries. We only use the premium ‘butt’ of the hide for its strength, and also to prevent our belts from stretching.

Quality hardware is hard to come by, so ours is custom made. The guys that make our buckles have been casting brass since 1837, so they’re pretty good at it. They also hold the Royal warrant as suppliers to household of the Queen of England, and that’s testament enough for us! Our Roller buckle is created using traditional sand casting skills, and is made from solid brass with a copper finish. The rivets we use are also solid brass copper plated, designed for quality and strength.

The result of our endeavours is a rugged belt of outstanding quality that will stand the test of time. Handmade with the care and attention that mass production will never imitate.

How we make it…

Each belt strip is cut to our standard width of 38mm (1.5’’), trimmed to size and the tips hand shaped and holes punched. The edges are bevelled and hand ‘burnished’, which seals the fibres of the leather, not only for aesthetics, but to help prevent the edges absorbing moisture. The strap is then cut to receive the buckle, which is riveted by hand.

About the Leather:

Constructed from full grain 5mm thick finest English Harness leather. Vegetable tanned using a time consuming, environmentally friendly process which utilises natural materials, including tree bark. Over time this leather will darken and develop a fine, unique patina with exposure to natural light.

Supplied with Barnes & Moore gift box, made from recycled materials and complimentary 5ml bottle of pure neatsfoot oil, used to condition the leather.

Despatch Messenger Bag Moss

Our Despatch messenger bag harks back to days gone by, when a bag was designed to be not only a practical piece of working kit, but also an item of functional necessity.

We wanted to create a bag with room to accommodate all your everyday, and travel needs so we took a practical approach and opted to make it slightly larger in size.

As with all our products, the core material  were a key focus, and we chose a natural waxed cotton canvas body, made from material supplied by the world’s premier English textile manufacturers who have been established since 1880 and are pioneers in waxed cotton. To reinforce the bag’s stability we then lined our bag with heavyweight military grade flax, also from the same supplier.

The leather we chose for this version is genuine Horween Baseball Glove, from the world famous Horween Tannery. This stunning leather was originally developed to make professional baseball gloves in the 1950’s, and is still widely used today. It has a subtle ‘oiled’ texture and will develop a beautiful patina as it ages.

Inside the bag we included a handy pocket with a zip closure. Again, concentrating on the details, we wanted the best zip available, so we chose, the original, Talon zipper. We also added a phone pocket and useful pen loops. Solid brass buckles and hardware were used to provide a simple, traditional buckle fastening top flap. As with all our products, your bag is hand made by time served craftsmen in England.

Each bag comes boxed complete with dust bag.

Dimensions of the Despatch Messenger are:  375mm wide x 325mm high x 140mm deep.

About the Leathers:

Constructed from genuine 4 – 5oz Horween Shell Cordovan leather, with Horween Chromexcel horsefront inner.

Shell Cordovan is renowned for its extremely hardwearing properties, and was originally manufactured by Horween in 1905 for use as razor strops due to its durability.

Considered to be the finest leather in the world, it is also one of the most sought after leathers in the world and in constant short supply as only limited quantities are produced.

The process the shells go through takes a total of 6 months, and is extremely labour intensive. Each equine hide is hung on frames and pit tanned using Horween’s own unique tanning solution, which includes tree barks and resins.  The hides are moved around regularly to ensure each hide is evenly tanned, then after 30 days they are removed and the hides ‘shaved’ by hand to reveal the ‘shell’ membrane. The shells are then pit tanned in stronger solutions for a further 30 days, to ensure both the outer and inner fibres are penetrated by tannins. The shells then undergo various processes for a further four months, including the ‘hot stuffing’ of various fats, oils and greases into the leather, and also hand polishing to achieve the high gloss the leather is famed for.
