Mariners Journal Oxblood

£135.00 £85.00

Inspired by the journals favoured by seafaring types from an age of nautical adventure, we wanted our Mariner’s Journal to reflect the highly skilled workmanship that was apparent in goods from this bygone era.

We hand make the journal covers in England from Horween Chromexcel, a leather from the world famous Horween Tannery. We choose this leather for many of our products due to its unfaltering high quality and fascinating heritage. As it ages it will develop its own unique character, changing colour tone as the leather is flexed, resulting in a beautiful rich patina. The tab closure is made from English pure oak bark tanned bridle leather and fitted with solid brass hardware.

We didn’t feel that standard commercial paper would be right for us, so each journal has 80 plain white pages, which are handmade from pure cotton. We also combined our love of tradition with modern lifestyle needs and included four card slots to the internal front face.

Size of our Mariner’s Journal is 160mm wide x 227mm high x 35mm deep.

Supplied in Barnes and Moore gift box, made from recycled materials.

Additional 80 page handmade cotton paper journal inserts available HERE.

Garrison Leather Belt – Tärnsjö Organic Veg Tan/Copper Edition

£110.00

Our Garrison belt was born out of a desire to make a high quality belt, that would look good, stand the test of time, and essentially hold our jeans up!

We settled on a simple, functional design, with a focus on the quality of materials and workmanship, and set about creating a belt that we would be proud to put our name to.

For this version, we chose natural vegetable tanned leather from Sweden’s reputed Tärnsjö tannery.

World famous for its quality and ethical manufacturing process, and also the only certified ‘organic’ tannery in the world! The leather has a ‘creamy’ texture, slightly darker in shade than our English natural veg tan, and is also full grain so it will show some shade texture and natural marking. Over time it will age naturally, changing colour from its natural state to varying darker shades of tan.

For hardware we wanted to offer something a little different to complement Tärnsjö’s stunning leather so we had our Garrison buckle cast in solid copper by England’s last remaining sand cast foundry. They’ve been casting brass since 1837, so they’re pretty good at it, and as a testament hold the Royal Warrant and supply goods to Her Majesty the Queen of England! They were kind enough to cast us a buckle made to our own unique design, from solid copper, which we felt complemented the leather perfectly. The copper is polished initially, but will change colour as it ages with exposure to air and contact, allowing each buckle to develop its own unique patina.

Each of our Garrison buckles weighs in at a hefty 100g and is built to last a lifetime.

The result of our endeavours is a belt of outstanding quality, handmade with the care and attention that mass production will never imitate.

How we make it

Each leather belt strip is hand cut to our standard width of 38mm (1.5’’), trimmed to size and the tips hand shaped. The edges are bevelled and hand ‘burnished’, which seals the fibres of the leather, not only for aesthetics, but to help prevent the edges absorbing moisture. The strap is then cut to receive the buckle, which is riveted by hand. Finally the belt holes are punched and the leather is hand polished.

About the leather

Established since 1873, Tärnsjö Garveri are amongst 5% of tanneries in the world using traditional vegetable tanning to produce their leather. The tannery is located in a forest on the banks of the Tärnsjön lake in Sweden and uses hides from local Swedish farms to produce superior quality leather.

Tärnsjö are committed to responsible, sustainable manufacture, and to minimising the environmental impact of the tanning process. Each hide can be traced back to the farm it was sourced from and each process it goes through is certified to be fully organic.

Standard width of the Garrison is 38mm (1.5”).

English hand cast, heavy, copper buckle with. Fitted with copper plated rivets and solid copper keeper.

Supplied with Barnes & Moore vintage effect gift box, made from recycled materials and complimentary 5ml bottle of natural English Neatsfoot Oil to condition the leather.

Constructed from 9-10oz finest English Bridle leather. Full grain, vegetable tanned using a time consuming, environmentally friendly process which utilises natural materials, including tree bark. This method achieves a supple, natural finish that will develop a beautiful patina over time. Standard width of the Garrison is 38mm (1.5”).

English hand cast, heavy, brass buckle with an antique nickel plated finish. Fitted with solid brass nickel plated rivets and solid brass keeper in antique nickel finish.

Supplied with Barnes & Moore gift box, made from recycled materials and complimentary 5ml pot of our handmade natural beeswax polish (contains natural beeswax, mineral oil and natural vanilla essence).

Garrison English Leather Belt Deep Honey/Black

£89.00

Our Garrison belt was born out of a desire to make a high quality belt, that would look good, stand the test of time, and essentially hold our jeans up!

We settled on a simple, functional design, with a focus on the quality of materials and workmanship, and set about creating a belt that we would be proud to put our name to.

We chose English vegetable tanned bridle ‘butt’ leather for the strap that is stained and finished by hand, and renowned for its quality and durability. The ‘butt’ is known to to be the strongest, part of the hide due to fibre strength and reserved for only the finest leather strap products.

Hardware was equally important so we went to the England’s last remaining sand cast foundry who also hold the Royal Warrant and supply goods to Her Majesty the Queen of England. They’ve been casting brass since 1837, so they’re pretty good at it. Using traditional skills they cast us a buckle made to our own unique design, from solid brass. Each of our Garrison buckles weighs in at a hefty 100g and is built to last a lifetime.

About the leather

Constructed from a very special English Leather, supplied by England’s last remaining traditional Oak Bark Tannery.  9-10oz finest English full grain oak bark leather. This leather undergoes a labour intensive, traditional 12 month tanning process to produce a truly outstanding leather. This results in a very strong, yet lightweight leather.

Oak Bark leather is finished by hand with a unique blend of oils and greases that allow the true natural characteristics and colour of the leather to be highlighted. As a result, this leather will show some variation in colour, which is naturally occurring and adds to the unique beauty of each belt.

The surface also has a ‘full grain’ finish and, as a result some natural creasing and marking of the hide may be visible on the surface of your belt, which is a natural characteristic of the leather.

The journey starts with English oak bark, ground down by a water wheel, which is fed by a local river at the tannery. This is then soaked in water to draw out the natural tannin which forms the base of the tanning liquor.

Hides are then soaked in pits for 2-3 weeks to aid removal of the hair, this part of the process ensures the leather retains its fibre strength, and has been done this way for centuries. They are then cleaned by hand and washed before being suspended on wooden ‘sticks’ and suspended in the tanning pits, in the oak bark liquor for 9 months.

The hides are then layered in the pits with oak bark chippings inbetween them for a further 3 months and then shaved to a level thickness. Fish oil is applied and the hides are dipped in greases, and then ‘set’ by hand. The setting process is highly skilled and involves using traditional tools to push the leather grain out to achieve a flat, workable surface.

The final stage is staining the leather to the required colour by hand, and then conditioning with dubbin wax to produce a stunning quality leather.

Standard width of the Garrison is 38mm (1.5”).

English hand cast, heavy, solid brass buckle with a military grade, black epoxy coating. Fitted with solid brass, black epoxy coated rivets and solid brass, black epoxy coated keeper.

Our buckle is supplied by England’s last remaining sand cast foundry who also hold the Royal Warrant and supply goods to Her Majesty the Queen of England. They’ve been casting brass since 1837, so they’re pretty good at what they do.

How we make it

Each belt strip is hand cut to our standard width of 38mm (1.5’’), trimmed to size and the tips hand shaped. The edges are bevelled and hand ‘burnished’, which seals the fibres of the leather, not only for aesthetics, but to help prevent the edges absorbing moisture. The strap is then cut to receive the buckle, which is riveted by hand. Finally, the teardrop shaped belt holes are punched and the leather is hand polished.

About the leather

Constructed from 9-10oz finest English full grain saddle hide. This leather is traditionally vegetable tanned using a time consuming, environmentally friendly process which utilises natural materials, including tree bark. This method achieves a supple, natural finish that will develop a beautiful patina over time. Width of the Bosun is 38mm (1.5”).

English hand cast, heavy quality solid brass buckle with an antique nickel finish. Fitted with solid brass, nickel plated rivets.

Supplied with Barnes & Moore gift box, made from recycled materials and complimentary 5ml pot of our handmade natural beeswax polish (contains natural beeswax, mineral oil and natural vanilla essence).

We created the slim belt in response to our customers who prefer a narrow profile belt. It’s designed to complement a wide range of trousers and chino’s, and is simply a scaled down version of our popular Garrison belt.

The slim belt features a hand cast buckle, made exclusively for us by a traditional local foundry who also hold the Royal Warrant and supply goods to Her Majesty the Queen of England. We use finest English vegetable tanned bridle leather of the highest quality for the strap, and each belt is made by hand at our workshop in England.

How we make it

Each belt strip is hand cut to our standard width of 32mm (1 1/4’’), trimmed to size and the tips hand shaped.

Constructed from 9-10oz finest English natural tooling leather. Full grain, vegetable tanned using a time consuming, environmentally friendly process which utilises natural materials, including tree bark. Standard width of the Slim is 32mm (1 1/4”).

English solid brass, antique nickel plated buckle. Hand crafted using traditional methods and made exclusively for Barnes and Moore. Fitted with nickel plated solid brass rivets and solid brass, antique nickel plated keeper.

Despatch Messenger Bag English Navy

£299.00

Our Despatch messenger bag harks back to days gone by, when a bag was designed to be not only a practical piece of working kit, but also an item of functional necessity.

We wanted to create a bag with room to accommodate all your everyday, and travel needs so we took a practical approach and opted to make it slightly larger in size.

As with all our products, the core material  were a key focus, and we chose a natural waxed cotton canvas body, made from material supplied by the world’s premier English textile manufacturers who have been established since 1880 and are pioneers in waxed cotton. To reinforce the bag’s stability we then lined our bag with heavyweight military grade flax, also from the same supplier.

The leather we chose is genuine Horween Chromexcel, from the world famous Horween Tannery.  With a 100 year old heritage, this leather has an ability to alter shades as it is bent and stretched to develop its own, unique personality. It is still produced today using traditional old world craftsmanship and develops a rich, beautiful patina over time.

Inside the bag we included a handy pocket with a zip closure. Again, concentrating on the details, we wanted the best zip available, so we chose, the original, Talon zipper. We also added a phone pocket and useful pen loops. Solid brass buckles and hardware were used to provide a simple, traditional buckle fastening top flap. As with all our products, your bag is hand made by time served craftsmen in England.

Each bag comes complete with dust bag and Barnes and Moore handmade timber presentation crate.

Dimensions of the Despatch Messenger are:  375mm wide x 325mm high x 140mm deep.

Despatch Messenger Bag Black Ash

About the leather

Constructed from genuine 4 – 5oz Horween Shell Cordovan leather, with Horween Chromexcel horsefront inner.

Shell Cordovan is renowned for its extremely hardwearing properties, and was originally manufactured by Horween in 1905 for use as razor strops due to its durability.

Considered to be the finest leather in the world, it is also one of the most sought after leathers in the world and in constant short supply as only limited quantities are produced.

The process the shells go through takes a total of 6 months, and is extremely labour intensive. Each equine hide is hung on frames and pit tanned using Horween’s own unique tanning solution, which includes tree barks and resins.  The hides are moved around regularly to ensure each hide is evenly tanned, then after 30 days they are removed and the hides ‘shaved’ by hand to reveal the ‘shell’ membrane. The shells are then pit tanned in stronger solutions for a further 30 days, to ensure both the outer and inner fibres are penetrated by tannins. The shells then undergo various processes for a further four months, including the ‘hot stuffing’ of various fats, oils and greases into the leather, and also hand polishing to achieve the high gloss the leather is famed for.

Merchant Coin Purse – Black

£37.00

Merchant Coin Purse

Our coin holder was born from our personal experience of coins wearing through the pocket bags of our favourite denims, resulting in repairs being required long before the pockets had actually worn out.

Our frustration led us to create our Merchant coin purse, which is small and neat enough not to absorb all your pocket space, and provides a handy solution to store your daily loose change.

We like our details, so we added a vintage Talon zipper, and also lined it with English bridle leather for the perfect marriage of quality, style and function.

Handmade from the finest materials at our workshop in England

Dimensions of the Merchant coin purse when closed are 93mm (3.6”) wide x 79mm (3.1”) high.

Your wallet will arrive in a Barnes and Moore natural cotton gift bag.

About the Leather:

Constructed from 4-5oz high quality English veg tan leather, lined with English bridle leather.

Merchant Coin Purse – Natural

The Farrier holdall is an iconic essential travelling companion. Designed to complement our Despatch messenger and Engineer’s tote bag, and made with function in mind. Inspiration for the style and shape comes from traditional men’s work bag’s used in England in the 1950’s.

We took the core material of waxed cotton canvas, from cloth supplied by the world’s finest English waxed cotton manufacturers, who have a rich heritage dating back to 1880.

We then combined this with Horween Chromexcel leather from the famous Horween Tannery and lined it with a natural cotton flax that was historically used to make sailcloth for the Royal Navy.

Internally we included a handy pocket with Talon zipper and a stowaway leather pouch which conceals the shoulder strap.

The leather base has 6 solid brass feet, and all of the additional hardware used in construction is high quality solid brass.

Once we were happy with the design and materials, our highly skilled craftsmen make each bag by hand and inspect it for quality of finish.

Simple and functional wallet tether, made from 4mm natural vegetable tanned leather from Sweden’s reputed Tarnsjo tannery. Hand cut, and burnished and featuring our heavy quality solid brass fish hook and solid brass swivel snap, both secured with solid brass rivets.

Suitable for use on both our Sportsman mid wallet and Riverman cardholder, but it will also work with most wallets designed to be secured with a tether.

The length of our tether is 520mm (20.5”) tip to tip (including brass hardware). Handmade from the finest materials at our workshop in England.

Please note, the Sportsman Mid Wallet pictured is sold separately.

Supplied with Barnes & Moore gift box made from recycled card, and complimentary 5ml bottle of pure English neatsfoot oil to help your tether age!

About the Leather:

Established since 1873, Tarnsjo Garveri are amongst 5% of tanneries in the world using traditional vegetable tanning to produce their leather. The tannery is located in a forest on the banks of the Tärnsjön lake in Sweden and uses hides from local Swedish farms to produce superior quality leather.

Tarnsjo are committed to responsible, sustainable manufacture, and to minimising the environmental impact of the tanning process. Each hide can be traced back to the farm it was sourced from and each process it goes through is certified to be fully organic.

English Pure Neatsfoot Oil

£8.00

As leather is a natural product, it requires care from time to time.

For the majority of our leather products we recommend pure neatsfoot oil, which is a traditional treatment for leather than has been used for centuries.

Handy 125mm aluminium travel bottle.  Apply with a soft cloth to condition and nourish your leather, allow to dry and buff with a clean, soft cloth to finish.

Please note that applying neatsfoot oil will darken lighter coloured leathers.

Shipping is free to all UK mainland addresses.

Tillerman Card Holder – Black Horween Shell Cordovan Edition

Featuring 2 card pockets and central slot for folded notes. Dimensions of the Tillerman are 70mm (2.8”) wide x 100mm (3.9”). Handmade from the finest materials at our workshop in England

Farrier Holdall Merlot

£399.00

The main storage area incorporates a sturdy Talon zipper closure and we’ve also added two external side pouches, with traditional buckle fastening, to accommodate additional items.

The result of our toils was a traditional, real heavyweight of a holdall. The large capacity will accommodate both travel and everyday needs. As with all our products, we’re proud to say that our bags are hand made in England.

Each bag comes complete with Barnes and Moore bespoke English handmade solid timber presentation crate.

Dimensions of the Farrier Holdall are: 600mm wide x 400mm high x 230mm deep with an approximate capacity of 51 litres.
